It’s truly a mystery how Cami, a sweet and playful 4-year-old pit bull mix, ended up spending most of her life at the Saint Frances Animal Center shelter in South Carolina. Even the lead adoptions coordinator, Ashley S. Miller, couldn’t explain why Cami was overlooked for so long. Despite being a friendly dog who loved getting belly rubs and going for walks, Cami spent a staggering 1,248 days at the shelter, the longest any resident has ever stayed there.
However, everything changed when Addie Nelson visited the shelter on October 15th. Initially there to meet other dogs, Nelson instead fell in love with Cami at first sight. Within just five minutes of their meet and greet, Nelson knew Cami was the one for her. Since then, Nelson has stayed in touch with the shelter staff on social media, sharing updates and photos of Cami’s new life.
Cami was brought to the shelter by animal control officers in May 2019 and was initially reserved and nervous. But as time went on, her true personality shone through, and she became known for her love of long walks, comfy blankets, and belly rubs.
It took nearly three and a half years, but Cami finally found her perfect match in Nelson. Now, Cami is experiencing the joys of living in a real home filled with unconditional love and companionship. It’s a heartwarming reminder that there truly is a family out there for every dog, and that it just takes time for them to meet and fall in love with each other.
